Law Society of Scotland Careers Days

As the professional body for solicitors in Scotland, the Society is committed to delivering careers advice on law and complementing the work of other organisations which help young people make informed careers choices. They are hosting the following events throughout March 2019:

Thursday 21 March 2019 (10am – 3.30pm approx.) - Thorntons Law LLP, 33 Yeoman Shore, Dundee, DD1 4BJ

Tuesday 26 March 2019 (10am – 3.30pm approx.) - Robert Gordon University, Faculty of Health & Social Care, Garthdee Road, Aberdeen, AB10 7QG 

• Pupils' registration must come through the school email address of a teacher/careers adviser, to [email protected]  so speak to your guidance teacher if you wish to register for an event
• Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis
• There will be a reserve list if the event is oversubscribed so give plenty of notice if you need to cancel
• To make the most of this opportunity, you should prepare questions for the panel speakers

Dolan Accountancy

Dolan Accountancy has recently published a career guide entitled How to Become an Accountant for anyone considering starting a career in the accounting and finance sectors.

This has been created as an overview of accounting careers, what it takes to start in the industry and career job prospects available. It also covers the needed skills, qualifications and experience, and how these can be attained.

Arnold Hill Accountancy Glossary

The financial services industry is filled with acronyms and jargon that can sometimes be hard to remember. Arnold Hill have published a helpful 'Accountancy Glossary' for anyone considering a career in accountancy or the financial services. It has been produced by a Chartered Accountants Agency and will give students an expert guide or act as a helpful reference point.

Perth & Kinross Regional Jobs and Careers Fair – Thursday 1 March 2018

This event is being organised in partnership by Perth and Kinross Council, Skills Development Scotland and Developing the Young Workforce.   It will be held on Thursday 1 March 2018 in the Academy of Sport and Wellbeing, Perth College UHI from 3.00 pm - 7.30 pm.  

A wide range of employers, Higher Education/Further Education institutions and training providers have already indicated they will be attending the event, which is open to senior pupils and their parents from all secondary schools in Perth and Kinross.

A website to help school leavers get jobs and understand the career paths available to them, everything from current apprenticeships and school leaver programme opportunities, to the latest school leaver job news, and advice to help guide you on your career journey.


The NHS have introduced their new website  It is a great resource for schools, pupils and parents. It highlights the range of different jobs available in the NHS, from gardener through to doctor, including information on entry requirements and vacancies. It's linked closely with My World of Work and so information will be shared across these sites. 

There's also a section aimed specifically at young people (and parents) with information about Modern Apprenticeships and work experience.

The NHS is in the process of developing a whole range of apprenticeship opportunities for young people and although it's early days we should see them starting to appear - although it may be this time next year when we really begin to see them established.
